I can't believe it has already been a couple of weeks since Ryan and I ran the Hot Chocolate 15K in Chicago! (I'm actually wearing my jacket from the race as I type this out, which I've worn quite a bit since that weekend.)
We drove down a couple days early to settle in and visit the expo. I wish I had taken more photos of the expo, but it was insanely packed, Ella was melting down, and I was getting a little overwhelmed. Other than all of that though? It was awesome! We checked out a lot of cool gear, Ryan bought a new belt, I got fitted for my next pair of running shoes (can't. wait.), and we definitely snacked on some tasty chocolate. (That's great race prep, right??) Next time, I think we'll plan for more time at the expo, just so we can fully see everything!

Thank God for Auntie Rachel who traveled with us to assist with Ella! We could not have survived the weekend without her. |
Honestly, I loved this race. We had an absolute blast making our way through downtown Chicago, and I am hopeful that we'll be back next year. (Gotta work on that legacy status!) The best part? I think this race may have officially given Ryan the bug :) Looks like I have a new training partner!
The course was pretty cool. It was suuuuper cold, which wasn't such a big deal once we were moving, but the corral time, and parts of the course, were still so cold. And windy! We spent the first couple of miles running underground, which was a little more comfortable (aka warm), and then some spots through downtown weren't bad, because the buildings blocked the wind. Luckily, we both had the perfect layers on to keep us from getting too cold, and we just kept on going, which helped. Hill-wise, there were a few spots that were tough, but nothing too bad! I'm definitely rethinking my strength training plan though, so I can run hills a little better.
